The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, a Feeding America affiliate, is challenging students, parents and teachers to help the hungry though a state-wide effort called Students Change Hunger. Each school will compete to collect the most food to help the hungry of New Jersey.

We had a beautiful day for the mobile pantry on Thursday in Taylorville!

By partnering with the Capitol District Dietetic Association for National Nutrition Month (that’s happening now!) we served about 495 households with things like fresh cabbage, potatoes, onions, and more! And look at all of those volunteers!

How can you help end hunger in your area? The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank introduces us to “Kate” as way for us to learn more about helping families just like Kate’s who are facing hunger and struggling to make ends meet in this economy.

People who are hungry are the people who live next door. They don’t wear a sign and say, ‘I am hungry.’ But what we know is that we do know them. They are our friends. They are our family. And we want to be here to help them.

USA Today featured Cooking Matters’ It’s Dinnertime report in their Snapshot section, highlighting the finding that 8 in 10 low-income families cook dinner at home most nights of the week. 

It’s time to make sure that all of Montana’s children have access to the food and basic nutrition they need to be healthy and to grow. The partnership with Share our Strength should help make that happen.

Grade school students are getting hands-on cooking and nutrition lessons through the University of Missouri’s Extension program. Abbie said she’s learning, “You can eat healthier now to help you get used to it earlier. You can have junk food sometimes but you don’t want it to be a habit.”

When asked to draw pictures of what the House Food Bank means to them, the kids that Reggie Young works with amazed him with their optimism and hope.
When it comes to fighting child hunger, “Optimism is underrated,” Reggie explained. “[The kids] views of the Houston Food Bank were inspiring and highlighted the optimism kids maintain on a regular basis.”

Reggie is a Child Hunger Corps member, a program to help end child hunger developed by Feeding America and funded by ConAgra Foods Foundation.
